[comp.graphics] CONVERTING IMAGES TO X-WINDOWS

carasso@sal-sun34.usc.edu (Roger Carasso) (06/16/90)

I NEED TO CONVERT MACPAINT, GIF, OR SUNRASTERS, INTO A FORMAT THAT
I CAN USE WITH X-WINDOWS.

I HAVE SEEN NO MENTION OF X ANYWHERE IN THIS NEWSGROUP, WHY?
CAN X READ IMAGES IN THOSE OTHER STANDARDS?

COULD ANYONE TELL ME WHERE TO FTP TO GET THESE CONVERTERS?

THANKS.

The X Window System is heavily (approx 75 to 100 messages per day)
discussed in the comp.windows.x newsgroup and xpert@expo.lcs.mit.edu
mailing list. Note: these 2 are gatewayed, so you only need to access
one. Mail to xpert-request@expo.lcs.mit.edu to get added to the
mailing list.

The standard X distribution from MIT includes the PBM system for
converting between many graphics formats. There is also a program
called xgif the can be ftp'ed from most archives, including
gatekeeper.dec.com:/pub/comp.sources.x/xgif.
