Someone on the Net mentioned that MOTIF will be available soon with X-windows. Can anyone tell me anything about "OSF MOTIF" - what it does, who makes it, etc.? Also, does anyone have a good reference on "User Interface Development Systems"? Thanks. Mike Samuels (703) 883-7828

Can anyone tell me anything about > "OSF MOTIF" - what it does, who makes it, etc.? Motif is a user interface programming environment. It was developed by the OSF and has been available to Open Software Foundation (OSF) members for several months. A public release should be out soon (if not already). The OSF includes many major computer manufacturers, including DEC, IBM, HP, Apollo, and Microsoft. Most of these were demoing Motif at SIGGRAPH and should be shipping Motif with their hardware in the future. The current implementation of Motif is based on the X Window System. It includes a window manager, widget set, enhanced intrinsics, and run-time user interface language. The look and feel is similar to Microsoft Presentation Manager. The programming interface is similar to DECwindows and the X Toolkit. Ken Lee DEC Western Software Laboratory, Palo Alto, Calif. Internet: klee@decwrl.dec.com uucp: uunet!decwrl!klee

I would like information of MOTIF by MIT. If anyone has experience with MOTIF it would be appreciated if they shared this information with me. I have just been given the name MOTIF and was asked to find out as much as possible about it. Thank you, in advance. -- ***************************************************************************** Glenn Dahlgren | UUCP :{uunet|watmath|utai|garfield}!cs.dal.ca!aucs!870361d 21 CAMPBELL RD | BITNET : 870361d@Acadia APT 10,KENTVILLE| INTERNET : 870361d@AcadiaU.CA

It was developed by the Open Software Foundation and is being distributed by most major workstation manufacturers, including DEC, HP/Apollo, and IBM. It requires the X Window System, but the user interface is very similar to that of Microsoft's Presentation Manager. For more info, see the Prentice-Hall series of books on Motif.
