For magazines, one pretty decent choice is Remote Sensing of the Envir- onment. For books I use Swain and Davis. It is a little on the old side but it very comprehensive. I have not seen any news groups or mailing lists mentioned here. Good Luck. -dave bonnett; a geographer run amok....

IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing - a magazine put out by IEEE. IMO Remote Sensing of Environment (elsevier) is an overpriced waste of time in general. The IEEE Journal (Geoscience and Remote Sensing) can get very technical, but has excellent material. Not previously mentioned and best of the lot is the ASPRS (American Society of Photogrametry and Remote Sensing) journal PE&RS (Photogrametric Engineering and Remote Sensing). It is easier to read than the IEEE journal, and has some great papers. Also a lot of the image processing software companies tend to advertise in it every so often. Also there is the International Journal of Remote Sensing which carries a number of image processing papers. I'm not terribly familiar with it, but if anybody wants more information on it, email and I'll find out for you. The Journal of Geophysical Research (JGR) also has remote sensing articles. For text books, Floyd Sabins Jr's book (Remote Sensing: Principles etc... I can't recall the entire name right now) is a good introduction. For real detail, as was mentioned in another posting, look into the Manual of Remote Sensing. Very expensive, but in the library probably. There is a book by Jensen called Image Processing (as I recall) that uses remote sensing images for most of the examples. It is also an easy reader. Hope this answers some questions....
