[comp.graphics] Wire Frame to Shaded Model

ahlstrom@oscar.ccm.udel.edu (07/13/90)

Greetings,

I have a question concerning the shading of a wire frame model.
I am working on a Personal IRIS 4D/25 and using the graphics program
FIGARO+ (this is Template Graphics Software's implementation of PHIGS).
Objects in qusetion are three dimensional shells (actually mandrels
for the simulation of filament winding, a manufacturing process for
certain composite materials.) To create a mesh, a user inputs a set
of points at a specified angle and a cubic spline is calculated based on the
coordinates. One spline is created every 30 degrees. The splines are then
joined at the endpoints and circular rings are drawn at intervals along
the longitudinal axis to create a mesh effect.

The mesh looks nice, but it would be great if we could find a rather
quick and easy way to shade the surface. Would a Fill Area Set 3 with
Data be the right way to go?? Anyone out there have any experience with
this sort of procedure??

	Thanks in anticipation,
