GBF/DIME stands for Geographic Base File/Dual Independent Map Encoding. 8->. For those still interested, please read on: For each line segment, the GBF/DIME files contain, among lots of other information, the State Plane Code, Latitude, Longitude and State Plane coordinates. The Lat/Lon points are expressed in degrees and ten- thousandths of a degree. The decimal point is NOT included, I believe. They can be either 6 or 7 digits long. State Plane coordinates are two 7 digit numbers expressed in feet, relative to the State Plane system assigned to that area (State Plane Code). An exception is Puerto Rico, where the coordinates are in meters. In Record 01, the attributes are found at the following positions: File Position State Plane Code - 179 thru 180 >From Latitude (Y Coord) - 205 thru 210 >From Longitude (X Coord) - 211 thru 217 To Latitude (Y Coord) - 218 thru 223 To Longitude (X Coord) - 224 thru 230 >From State Plane (Y Coord) - 231 thru 237 >From State Plane (X Coord) - 238 thru 244 To State Plane (Y Coord) - 245 thru 251 To State Plane (X Coord) - 252 thru 258 The above information was derived solely from the GBF/DIME, 1980: Technical Documentation from the Census Bureau. Hope it helps.
