[comp.graphics] facial animation -- summary

6600sgs@ucsbuxa.ucsb.edu (steve steinberg) (08/21/90)

A few weeks ago I posted a message requesting references to articles
concerning facial animation. I received many letters from people who also
wanted to learn more, but only two people were able to provide any
information. What follows is what I have been able to track down so far.

OVERVIEW

The first articles on the subject appeared in the mid 70's, many of
them by Fred Parke. Parke continues to be the most prominent researcher in
this area. Interest continued through the 80's, much of the research
concerned with improving the parametric model method. In the last couple
years the field has exploded with many different groups researching facial
animation from different directions. Things like mapping a "real" scanned
face onto the computer model to make it more realistic looking and trying
to convey expressions, not just lip movements are hot topics of research.

Does anyone know how I can get a copy of this paper now?

Thanks,
