[comp.graphics] Line Printer Musings.

pervect@bsu-cs.bsu.edu (Barrett M. Kreiner) (09/23/90)

Hi. I've been playing around with a scanned images (Targa-8 pics)
in a 512x400x256grey mode. My output devices are a vt240 terminal
(4 grey scale.. bleah, my own improvised 8 grey scale.. pretty good)
and a lg02 132 column printer. I have a simple reformatter that
puts an 8 grey scale to the printer.

my grey 8 looks like this " .,:+*#@".

What I need, (ok all you senior programmers who were junior hackers)
is a good double strike grey scale for the line printer. In other words
you print one character, then you overstrike a second character.
i.e. to get a maximum fill I would expect something like "#" overstriked
by a "*" (or some other high fill characters). If you have ever seen
"spock" or "moon" and look closely at the picture elements you'll know
what I'm talking about.

if you got one, Please send it to me. I would appriciate it ;-]
My little project has cause a great upsurge in graphic interest in
my social (as in I scan them and they see themselves on screen/printer)
and professional groups (unique application of different equipment)
so this would REALLY help.
