A few questions: 1) I have a Trident VGA chip set that is apparently quite capable of 640x480x256 mode (it is 512K) and I have a Samsung 640x480 VGA monitor. The actual code of the monitor is a Samsung CJ4681. I cannot however get my monitor to display in the 640x480x256 mode. Specifically I am trying to display a few gifs of this size using cshow, vgif, and picem; but I cannot get my monitor to display them. When I call up these images the screen starts humming loudly and doing the old tv phasing (scrolling up and down) real quickly. However it works on all other video modes. (including 640x480x16) My question is: Can anyone give me a clue as to how to solve my problem? Is it possible in my CMOS or XCMOS setup or what? If anyone else has had this problem with trident boards I would also appreciate being let known. 2) One other question I have is: Does anyone know of a way to convert from a targa graphics file to a color file of almsot ANY other type? (except postscript) I can get my targa files into grayscale TIF format, but cannot find anything to convert to color formats. Any info on this would be GREATLY appreciated!
