[comp.graphics] GIF formats

I not infrequently see people in these groups asking where to
find info on various formats, especially GIF. Rather than reply
to many people, I'm posting this to tell everyone that the GIF
specs (GIF87a and GIF89a) are both available via anonymous FTP from:

     milton.u.washington.edu
     128.95.136.1
     public/misc/GIF87a_spec.txt.Z, .../GIF89a_spec.txt.Z

As far as I know, these are complete and anadulterated copies of
the specs to be found on Compu$erve.

Is there any way to get these specs if you don't have ftp access? Could
someone uncompress them and mail them to me (if they aren't too large).

Thanks
