[comp.graphics] Sigh, sigh and Sigh... Frequently daft questions, read before e.t.c.

zap@lysator.liu.se (Zap Andersson) (10/15/90)

When reading comp.graphics i cannot help being astonished by the lack of
patience in some netters.... there IS a monthly posting called 'FRQ ASKED Q's
READ THIS BEFORE...' but there is still:

10e5 questions of Point In Polygon testing
10e3 please data on XYZZY file format
39e7 converting from HIF to DIF to ZIF to MyOwnUglyFormatNooneEvereUse MOUFNEU
1000 querys about 'where da hek can I ftp NFF, GIF, HIF or WHIFF models/e.t.c'
1723 RTFM's 'Where's tha ANY key' 'How do I use DXFOUT in AutoCAD with Macpaint

Cant you people read? =^)

Seriously, though, some interesting notes emerge when actually READING the
postings, and I like to throw in my 0.02SEK (Swedish Crown's...)

TRY NOT TO post:
Hi. I need data on fileformat XYZ

When what you REALLY need is either:
I need sourcecode to read format XYZ so i can put it in my program. I do
not want to convert to something like PBM I want to read XYZ directly!
or:
I need data/source on how to read some good format (PBM?) and code to
  transfer from-to that format...

Try not to ask:
Hi, I need a good PD DXF to Postscript converter and a good Postscript to
  IGES converter.

PLEASE let us know what you are AIMING at, like the above COULD have ment:
Hi, I use AutoCAD and need to plot things on my postscript thingy, get into
pagecranker and need to port it to our BigCad(tm) station via IGES. Lemme
  know how....

(This guy must have missed both PLOT, PRPLOT and IGESOUT from the AutoCAD
 manual =^)

These are just (invented) examples, but I think you get my general idea...
please let us out here KNOW what you REALLY need so you can obtain JUST THAT.
Perhaps the methot You thought was right is not? Perhaps someone 'out here'
knows "better"? Perhaps if You supply a LITTLE more backing to your queries
than just:
'Hi, I need source on 3d things, quick. Bye. Love, jim@computer.where'

TRY to.... and 'we' out here will be pleased to help....

Oh, By The Way.... how do you test if a point is inside a polygon? =^)

/Zzzz
