[net.cooks] Gas self-cleaning ovens

dlb@druxv.UUCP (Dave Bauer) (03/04/85)

I've been following this dicsussion of ranges carefully, because I too am in
the process of updating a kitchen. I've been looking for the suggested
gas cooktop with an electric oven without success. What dealers have been
anxious to show me, however, is gas cooktops with gas *self-cleaning* ovens.
I was always under the impression that the self-cleaning feature was only
associated with electric ovens, but this is apparently not the case.
Whirlpool has a self-cleaning gas model that runs around $799; Magic Chef
has one that runs $749, and Sears has one for $739 (which I can get on sale
for $599 currently).

I've got a few questions for which I'd appreciate responses.

1. has anyone had experience with these gas self cleaning ovens? do they work
as well as the electric models?
2. Is there such a thing as a gas cook surface with an electric oven, all in
one unit, as everyone as been recommending? I haven't been able to find
such a thing. Manufacturer, model number and price would be most
    appreciated.
3. The Sears unit is manufactured by Roper. does anyone have any experience
with this manufacturer? I've never heard of them.

TIA. reply by mail; I'll summarize in about a week.
