re: GI HDTV proposal I'm not familiar with the GI proposal, but at the recent CCITT meeting in Japan, representatives from Apple and IBM proposed a resolution-independent digital video standard which would be scalable across a range of communications channels. This work is going on in cooperation with the MIT Media Lab. -- Al Kossow @ Apple Computer, Inc., Cupertino, CA Internet: aek@apple.com Phone: (408) 974-5136

Does this use a Peano-curve scan like the BBC's resolution-independent approach? THese things are neat ideas, but I for one hope that before HiVision becomes totally obsolete, we'll at least have STARTED to switch to hexagonal pixels... Does anyone know of any pixel-shape independent scanning schemes? -- Ian D.
