[comp.graphics] Fractal Lanscapes.

ms2@doc.ic.ac.uk (M Shelley) (11/24/90)

Does anybody have any useful code for doing fractal landscapes/trees/plants.
Also, any information on rendering the landscapes would be useful.

I'm just starting to cover this sort of stuff, but my maths is not too hot.

The setup here, is X11R4 on either HP 9000 series 3 or Sun 3 workstations.

	Cheers,
		Martin

Q: How many IBM CPU's does it take to execute a job?
A: Four; three to hold it down, and one to rip its head off.

I recommend the Rayshade ray tracer for making nice renderings. It sports
the height field primitive. And it has the noise() function in it, which you
can rip out and use to make terrain models.

Get Rayshade via anonymous ftp at weedeater.math.yale.edu and read "The
Synthesis and Rendering of Fractal Terrains" in the SIGGRAPH '89 proceedings.
That should keep you busy for a bit!
