Hi, This is an announcement of opening the Thesis Bank. Thesis Bank ----------- The idea is to collect the old and new computer graphics thesis and related papers to the one (or several) anonymous ftp place. Purpose ------- With the thesis bank it is possible to distribute thesis faster and to a much larger publicity than with the traditional method. The thesis bank is based on the fact that thesis are not commercial, but I would like to have any other papers which are not commercial or which are freely distributable by permission of publisher. FTP places ---------- Thankfully we can collect the papers to weedeater.math.yale.edu [130.132.23.17] by permission of Craig Kolb. A papers should be put directly via anonymous ftp to the incoming directory of weedeater.math.yale.edu. All files should be in the one or two .tar files; Craig will extract them to the directory named with the name of the writer, guess. Let me (jk87377@tut.fi) know about the new thesis, because I'll keep the list for the thesis - please, don't bother Craig if he is too busy to do anything else but moving files from incoming directory to the thesis directory. Of course, I'll inform the net about the new thesis. If anonymous ftp isn't available, the (short) thesis can be sent to me via e-mail and I'll forward them. (jk87377@lehtori.tut.fi, Subject: Thesispost Automatic server keeps all important mails in the different place. Note: It's @lehtori.tut.fi not @tut.fi) I can read 3.5" disks and flobbies too, but I think there's many nearer places to send the disks than to me to Finland, but if nobody else would like to have free disks.... :-) If there's any other ftp places where to put papers, please let me know - in case weedeater's disk space is not large enough. Format ------ Thesis 'packet' should contain the following files: - Actual thesis in any common format: troff, postscript, ascii-textfile, etc. - Readme-file, which contains thesis' name, writer, contacting information, instructions to convert the thesis to a printable format; for example: postscript, any additional information about the writer or thesis/paper. - Separate pictures: For colour pictures we should use a format which is available for the most computers. Names of the pictures should be the same than in the paper; for example: Figure_6.7c If somebody is worried about illegal use of the pictures, don't give them. But even the poor black and white versions of the pictures are tolerable. ------------- Now we have one thesis (Peter Shirley) and Musgrave's papers. Shirleys thesis is good even without (darky) colour pictures, because the thesis itself contain the pictures -- black and white pictures are better than nothing. Sure we have to talk more about this idea - I'll wait the responses from you. Juhana Kouhia jk87377@tut.fi
