I have a student working with me on GIF files and related things. I should therefore very much appreciate it if I could have a little help in chasing up some references. 1. Is Bob Montgomery anywhere on the net? 2. Is Steve Blackstock ditto? 3. I have heard of GIFENCOD.GIF and GIFDECOD.GIF. Has anyone got a copy I could have (assuming it's PD, of course!). 4. Has anyone any GIF files that we could study? I already have NICE, CHERYL and BLASTOFF. They are all 640x350x16. It would be nice to have some other resolutions too. 5. The (long) article from compuserve detailing the GIF standard refers to IEEE "Computer" for June 1984 (Vol. 17 No. 6). We are finding it hard to track this down. Does anyone (in Britain) have a copy they are prepared to Xerox? There is just the one article we need on the LZW compression technique (by Terry A Welch). We are converting files from a Mac onto a Sun Sparc (in Gif format). The colors are coming out close but much darker than the original. Does anyone know how a Gif file stores the color information? Is it in RGB format (in other words does it store the exact RGB values)? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, -diane p.s. Please respond by email.
