I think they did once, but it was as Bob Dylan's backup band.
I thought that was hilarious, when I first heard about it, cuz if
anyone has domesticated Dylan's vocal style, it's Dire Straits!
Now doubt Dylan took advantage of Dire Straits' sudden surge of
popularity to put his torpid career under a spotlight (which clicked
off again, shortly afterward.) No doubt Dire Straits thought they
couldn't go it alone, and signed together with Dylan as a security
    measure - which backfired.

Honestly, I think they're a good band, with lots of potential yet.
If they never tour, it's OK with me. Did Steely Dan ever tour?

P.S. As long as I'm here, I'll throw in a review of the E.P.
("extended dancE Play"): As the title would suggest,
this is dance music. I enjoy their slower (dare I say,
mellow?) tunes more. There was only one song (of four)
that I found at all interesting. I don't recommend it.
Listen to someone else's copy first.

Answering the question "did Steely Dan ever tour?" --

I don't know if it was a "tour" but I saw Steely Dan early in their
career in NYC's Philharmonic (I guess if I can't spell it I should finally
statrt calling it Avery Fischer Hall). Of all things, they were a WARMUP
band, for Electric Light Orchestra (back before ELO got so boring,
commercial and repetitive they were actually a very progressive R&R band).

I will have to go home and check my details and dates.

Re: did Steely Dan ever tour?

There is a really kickass live version of "Bodhisattva" which I've
heard now and then on the radio which was recorded at a concert at a
school in California back around 1975, so I assume Steely Dan played
concerts, though I've never heard of them actually touring.

Another followup that has nothing to do with the subject field.
I saw Steely Dan in concert in Houston years ago. I assume that
means they tour. The person I went with had a bra in her purse
(from gym class, where they were required). I was wearing a top
hat. We snapped the bra onto the hat and flew it up to the stage
(which wasn't hard, most of the crowd was dancing at the front
of the hall. Hard-assed concert promoters won't let you do that
anymore, sheesh!). The hat (with bra) spent the rest of the
concert moving from head to head of the band.
	I had a great time.

The question was asked: How come the title of this article is

	does Dire Straits ever tour?

but everybody is talking about Steely Dan?

The answer is that the title is preceded by "Re:" which is
Latin for: "Having nothing to do with"

It also has a "- (nf)" after it which means that it has been determined
that the article is "Not Following_up_the_original_any_more."

As you can see, both apply here.
