[comp.graphics] Contouring/interpolation and Geology applications

grp157@csc2.anu.edu.au ("Group Account 157") (12/11/90)

(apologies if this appears again (or has already appeared), I'm having troubles with the editor...)

I am working on a geodynamics project that involves the digitizing of
isopach maps and the subsequent manipulation of that data to produce, hopefully
some meaningful results (e.g. coloured contour 'maps' and 3-D representation).
Part of this involves interpolating and contouring this data and I've developed
a curiousity about the various methods I know must exist, but alas, I have
drawn a blank in my research attempts.
There seems to be a notable lack of references/articles on the subject
of computer graphical applications in Earth Sciences/geology, or am I just not
looking in the right place??? I would greatly appreciate some advice as to
what direction I should be investigating for further information.

Thanks in advance,
		Keith Sircombe.

P.S. (In case my .sig file is also playing up, please note that I'm posting from a group account. All e-mail to be directed to: keith@rses.anu.edu.oz )
