Eurographics Workshop on Object Oriented Graphics FIRST CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS Koenigswinter - Federal Republic of Germany 6-8 June 1990 Aims and Scope: ============== Object Oriented Methods are proving to be particularly applicable to Computer Graphics -- in formulating new graphics standards and in dynamic graphics and human computer interaction. The specific computer graphics problems have also resulted in a critique of the object oriented paradigm. Contributions are sought which combine the latest results in Object Oriented Methods with original contributions to Computer Graphics. Participants will present their work and discuss problems and extensions with the group. Areas of interest include: + Standardization and Object Oriented Languages for graphics + Complex Objects (e.g., objects with a hierarchy of parts) + Dynamic Type Creation (e.g., new types created on the fly in CAD) + Automatic Classification of dynamically created objects + Issues in 3-D Animation & Robotics (Constraints, Collision Detection ...) + AI and Knowledge Representation in object oriented graphical systems + Direct Manipulation and object oriented User Interfaces Full Papers: ============ The workshop will be limited to about 40 participants to encourage discussion. Selection will take place on the basis of full papers (up to 25 pages) reviewed by the programme committee. Please submit 4 copies to the address below. Papers will appear in the workshop proceedings. Invitations to submit revised versions for a book (in the EurographicSeminars Series) will depend on the quality of the contributions. Taking part without submitting a paper may be possible in a few cases if you submit a position paper with your view on current issues in object oriented computer graphics. Invitations will be sent about one month before the workshop. Schedule: ======== 31 January 1990 Deadline for full paper 12 April 1990 Notification of acceptance of paper 30 April 1990 Latest date for position papers 6-8 June 1990 WORKSHOP 13 August 1990 Deadline final paper (15-25 pp. camera ready) Venue and Fee: ============== The workshop will be held at Koenigswinter near Bonn, on the Rhine. The fee will be around DM700, including accommodation, meals, evening boat excursion and reception at Birlinghoven Castle. Student participants without access to other funds could be subsidized. Organization: ============= The workshop is organized by the German National Research Centre for Computer Science (GMD) and the Dutch Centre for Mathematics and Computer Science (CWI) and promoted by Eurographics, in cooperation with: German Society for Informatics (GI4.1.1 Special Interest Group for Graphics Systems, GI4.1.5 German Chapter of Eurographics). Co-chairmen: Peter Wisskirchen (GMD) and Edwin Blake (CWI). Programme Committee: ==================== The committee so far includes: A.Borning (USA), R.Duisberg (USA), M.R.Kaplan (USA), B.A.Myers (USA), C.Nahaboo (France), X.Pintado (Switzerland), M.Slater (UK), T.Takala (Finland), J.van den Bos (Netherlands). Information: ============ Manuscripts and requests for information should be sent to the workshop secretary: Ms. Marja Hegt, O-O Graphics Workshop, CWI, Kruislaan 413, 1098 SJ Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The deadline for papers is fast approaching. The following is the revised call for contributions: CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS Second Eurographics Workshop on Object Oriented Graphics Texel, The Netherlands, 5-7 June 1991 Aims and Scope: =============== Object Oriented Methods are particularly applicable to Computer Graphics in its broadest sense -- in human computer interaction, in image synthesis, in dynamic graphics and in CAD. Research in computer graphics has also lead to a critique of object oriented theory. The workshop is part of a continuing series allowing researchers to pool ideas and to address common problems. The previous workshop identified a number of fundamental issues for resolution. These included: + Constraints for graphics systems and their inclusion in the object oriented paradigm. + Relationships between declarative and object oriented approaches to graphics. + The integration of dataflow methods and `objectified' messages. + Usefulness of inheritance hierarchies. The use of prototypes and delegation. + Abstractions for modelling complex objects (e.g., part hierarchies). + What multiple views of objects are, and how they may be implemented. + The need for object oriented graphics standards (new API) and systems. + Overcoming the shortcomings of existing object oriented environments. Papers are solicited which address these or other fundamental issues arising from the use of object oriented methods in computer graphics. The discussions could lead to extensions to the papers or to the formulation of research programmes to address remaining unresolved problems. Full Papers: ============ Please submit 4 copies of a full paper (15-25 single sided pages, < 10000 words, 200 word abstract) for review by the programme committee. Papers accepted for the workshop will be reproduced in the proceedings. Invitations to submit revised versions for a book (in the Eurographic- Seminars Series of Springer) will depend on the quality of the contributions. Position Papers: ================ Taking part is also possible if you submit a brief position paper (1-2 pages) stating your view on some relevant issues. Invitations will be sent at least a month before the workshop. Early position papers have priority and will be printed in the (pre-)proceedings. Workshop Format: ================ The workshop is limited to about 60 participants. Full papers will be presented to the plenum, while specialized groups will be formed for discussion sessions. Schedule: ========= 31 January 1991 Deadline for full paper. 12 April 1991 Deadline for position paper to be included with preprints. Notification of outcome of review of full papers. 4 May 1991 Latest date for position papers for admission to workshop. 5-7 June 1991 WORKSHOP 9 August 1991 Deadline for revised final paper for book. Venue and Fee: ============== The workshop will be held in De Koog, on the island Texel, The Netherlands. Transport from Amsterdam will be provided for about HFL 50. The fee will be about HFL 850, including accommodation and meals. Students without access to other funds could be subsidized. Organization: ============= The workshop is organized by the CWI (Dutch Centre for Mathematics and Computer Science) and promoted by Eurographics. It is supported by a grant from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research. It is chaired by Edwin Blake (CWI) and Chris Laffra (SERC). Programme Committee: ==================== F. Arbab (Netherlands), J. Coutaz (France), E. Fiume (Canada), B.N. Freeman-Benson (USA), M.R. Kaplan (USA), Wm Leler (USA), B.A. Myers (USA), X. Pintado (Switzerland), T. Takala (Finland), J. van den Bos (Netherlands), I. Wilkinson (UK), P. Wisskirchen (Germany). Papers to: ========== Mr. Chris Laffra, SERC -- Software Engineering Research Center, P.O.
