The Ohio Supercomputer Graphics Project at the Ohio Supercomputer Center is pleased to announce that apE software for visualization, version 2.0, is now available. apE is a software toolkit for visualization. Highly flexible, it allows users to convert information into imagery in many different ways. Scientific and engineering data can be processed and viewed as plots, color images, and three-dimensional objects. Different imaging techniques can be prototyped by adjusting the kinds and order of processing performed upon the data. apE is a dataflow environment, with a high-level visual programming paradigm that allows the construction of complex flow topologies, including multiple fan-in/out, branching, and looping. The apE release contains all source code and scripts necessary to compile the software. Pre-compiled binaries are included for the SGI Personal Iris and the SUN SPARCstation. In addition, a complete set of apE documentation is included, consisting of a reference manual, a user's manual, programming guides and tutorials. The software is available in 9 track, cartridge, or 8mm formats. Technical papers on apE and the apE documentation are available via anonymous ftp from apE.osgp.osc.edu (128.146.18.18) in the directories pub/doc/papers and pub/doc/release. We began shipping November 26, 1990, and have received more than 350 orders to date for the software. If you have already ordered your copy, you should be receiving it in the next few weeks. Our limited staff is doing its' best to fill the orders as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience. apE is being distributed for a nominal $75.00 fee. apE order forms, license agreements, and additional information are available three ways: 1) via anonymous ftp from apE.osgp.osc.edu (128.146.18.18) in the directory pub/doc/info 2) by sending electronic mail to michelle@osgp.osc.edu or apE@apE.osgp.osc.edu 3) by calling the apE information line at 614-292-0006 Questions regarding apE or the ordering process should be addressed to michelle@osgp.osc.edu. An apE symposium that would focus upon use of the apE system and include advanced training, investigations of future directions for the system, and an exchange of user-developed filters is currently being planned for this spring. We would like to thank our beta testers and those who have supported our project throughout the development of apE 2.0. Without you, the finished product would have never been possible. -- Michelle Messenger | email: michelle@osgp.osc.edu The Ohio Supercomputer Graphics Project | Phone: 1224 Kinnear Road | (614) 292-0006 Columbus, Ohio 43212 | FAX: (614) 292-7168
