Salem -- a viewer for 3D scenes is now available for anonymous ftp. Salem is a program for creating and flying thru 3D scenes on SGI Iris'es. The program combines a hierarchical ``object file system'' with multiple views and a shell-like command interpreter. It also accepts mouse input for specifying object and camera motions in individual views. Sample clients (eg 3d convex hull, graph drawing in 3d, knot generation, ...) are included in the distribution. An initial description, ``A viewer for mathematical structures and surfaces in 3D'' (Dobkin, North, Thurston), appeared in the 1990 Symposium on Interactive 3D Graphics, Salem is available from princeton.edu via anonymous ftp. Just cd to pub/graphics and get Salem.tar.Z which is a compressed version of a tar file of the distribution. If you have any comments, questions, problems, or suggestions for improvement, please feel free to contact us at graphics@princeton.edu. -- David Dobkin Department of Computer Science Princeton University
