There seems to be a lot of heat being generated over the Mahi-Mahi and its derivation. Just to set the record straight, don't trust me, pick up any dictionary and look up dolphin. There are two entries. One for the mammal and one for the fish. Now, get a copy of McLains Standard Fishing Encyclopedia and look up Mahi-Mahi. I won't bother you with the details since they are outlined in the books. I will point out that there are federal regulations which prohibit the taking of or selling the mammal type dolphin. These rules have been in effect for a decade or more. Any resturant that claims to be selling the mammal as an item on its menu should be immediatley reported to the federal authorities. They will most likely be closed down. The difference between the taste of porpoise and Mahi-Mahi is about the same as the difference between Bluefish and beef. There is no comparison. YOU CANNOT LEGALLY BUY OR SELL THE MAMMAL IN THE US of A. Nuf said. T. C. Wheeler
