In a previous posting I asked for help in locating an article of interest in Byte magazing. After several false starts, I finally found the article, in the August, 1986 issue of Byte. Since several readers asked for the reference if I found it, I am posting a brief summary: Title: Similarity Mapping, A Macintosh program that creates "maps" from tables of distance data. Author: Rob Spencer Summary: The author describes a technique for automatically determining the relative placement of cities on a map, given the pairwise distances between them. Several references are provided, the most important of which is : Introduction to Multi-Dimensional Scaling Schiffman, S.S., M.L. Reynolds, and F.L. Young New York, Academic Press, 1981. I hope this is helpful. Alan Broder
