[comp.graphics] ftp site for MS/PhD Thesis?

ksung@cs.uiuc.edu (Kelvin Sung) (01/25/91)

I was told that there is a ftp site for graphics
related MS and PhD thesis. Does anyone know anything
about this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Yes, there's so called Papers Bank project going on.

It's not yet completely well organized, but here is something
about it:

Where to send the new papers?
Put them to anonymous ftp site nic.funet.fi to pub/graphics/papers
/Incoming directory. And mail to kouhia@nic.funet.fi who, what, etc.
He'll then add the papers to the NetPapers list; I include such kind
  of list to this article.

The NetPapers list contains roffbib-info about the papers; there's
too O-field which tells where the papers is - check the nearest site
to you.
The NetPapers list will appear at least to the sites which has the
papers mentioned in the list.

In the nic.funet.fi has in ..../papers directory README file; if
there's more information you should read that.

Additions, advices, suggestions, questions, etc. should mail to
kouhia@nic.funet.fi.

In future it might be possible that NetPapers will include the papers
which isn't from computer graphics field.

Papers which are currently available from the Net via anonymous FTP.

I downloaded this paper but was unable to print it. It would print the
title page, contents, figures list, and two pages of text and then it would
stop. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

Sounds like you have forgotten to set the binary transfer mode on.
It is required for compressed files.

It works well in LaserWriter(what ever that is) printers.
It should work with any postscript printer; postscript is a standard,
though.
I tryed to run it with xps and it did quit to the statusdict command.

Who has made your printer?
Do you print it to the paper? (Not to the screen.)
If to the screen what program you try use?

Is there exits any *standard* postscript formats?

I used two different postscript printers, one of which was a LaserWriterII.
I printed to paper but only the first 6 pages would come out of either printer.
I receieved a reply from Christos S. Zoulas who stated that their is a
problem with the figures in kyri90.ps and that there is a hacked version of
the paper on tesla.ee.cornell.edu:/private/graphics-architectures.ps.
I tried removing the figures manually and once I figured out what to remove,
the whole document printed fine (minus the figures of course). I do not
understand why some people can print this document in its entirety
while others including me cannot. Unless some postscript expert out there
is listening, I guess it will remain a mystery.

Hmm.. I'll try to reproduce the postscript file and replace it out
for anonymous ftp. It prints fine in my printer also (LaserWriter II).
