Onion ring recipies, Hmmmm let me think. I usually start with a good ale batter (one of my favorites) - It's really easy to make and takes an all of two mins. to prepare. Pour half a bottle of ale (preferably ENGLISH ale - you know, that black stuff - my favorite is Bass Pale Ale - it's expensive, but worth every penny) into a mixing bowl. Beat the ale with a wisk to remove all of the CO2. Let the foam settle, add a dash of salt, and then add flour, a little at a time, beating with a wisk until it is the desired consistancy. As a variation you can add an egg (beaten) before adding the flour. (the best part of this recipie is that you only need half a bottle of ale - you get to drink the rest as you cook) The trick here is that if the batter is too thin, it won't coat the onion rings correctly, if it is too thick it will fall off the rings. Then - coat the onion rings in flour - VERY important! The batter won't stick at all if the rings aren't coated! Dip in batter, fry, and enjoy! Try an onion loaf-- make a beer batter, coat your onion in it, place the whole thing in a bread loaf and bake it in 350 until golden brown. Saves all that fat and deep frying, and you can just pull it apart and nibble on it. chuq -- :From the closet of anxieties of: Chuq Von Rospach {cbosgd,fortune,hplabs,ihnp4,seismo}!nsc!chuqui nsc!chuqui@decwrl.ARPA There is nobody as small as those who refuse to accept the success of others.
