dlb@zippysun.math.uakron.edu (Dave Bartlett) (02/18/91)

Hello..

Has anyone done anything in the way of animation using X11?
Have anyone ever tried animation using X window dumps ?
Am I am at least on the right track by using X window dumps for animation ?

Does anyone have any recommendations ? Or attempts ? Or successes ?

Please reply to dlb@zippysun.math.uakron.edu

Thanks.

The 'getx11' program that is part of the Utah Raster Toolkit will do
animation. Feed it a sequence of images, and it will run them
forwards, backwards, continuously f or b, f+b repeatedly, at whatever
frame rate you want (up to the max your X will handle). It does tend
to make your server grow (since each frame of the movie gets its own
pixmap in the server). On a good display, it really looks nice.
