Seems that there had been a rash of emergency room admissions (no pun intended) in Chicago of people who had severely irritated skin. The hands and the face were the most common targets, and the people had all been preparing Hunan food, which involved handling those hot Chinese peppers. I don't want to imagine what could happen to someone removing contacts after playing with vegetable fire, since the oils irritate even relatively insensitive skin. They recommended thourough washing immediately afterward (lather up and scrub for a timed minute), or even wearing rubber gloves!
