[net.cooks] party treats

My sister-in-law gave me a recipe for an appitizer that is great to bring
to a party. I tired it, and several people asked for the recipe. I guess
I should have sold it (-:

French Bread and Dip

16 oz sour cream
16 oz cream cheese
8 oz smoked, sliced, chopped, pressed beef
4 medium green onions
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 medium round load french bread

Blend the sour cream and cream cheese until smooth. Chop the beef into
1/4 inch squares and add to the sour cream mixture. Chop the green onions
(tops too) and add to the sour cream mixture with the salt and pepper. The
next step is to make the french bread into a bowl. Slice the top off the
french bread. Remove the bread from inside the loaf tearing it into
pieces that can be dipped. Fill the loaf with the sour cream mixture and
replace the top of the bread. Bake at 350 for 1 hour. Serve warm with the
french bread pieces.

This recipe reminded me of one of my favorite party dips. It's similar,
but less effort.

        Chipped Beef Dip

16 oz Sour Cream
8 oz Pressed, dried etc Beef (I use the Armour Beef in a package
that used to come in a jar)
Onion to taste - usually one medium.

Combine all ingredients, and let it sit for at least four hours before serving
to let the salt and spices in the beef permeate the sour cream. I find
that Triscuits go very well with this.

Enjoy!
