[comp.graphics] Editing Generic Bitmaps

6500boo@ucsbuxa.ucsb.edu (William Bushing) (03/07/91)

Don't flame me until you read on. I know there are several
graphics programs that will read/write PCX, GIF, TIFF, SPIFF,
et al. I've tried several of the ones listed in the FAQ
file. However, I'm looking for a program that will import
a generic (headerless) bitmap of known dimensions and allow
you to edit it just like NIH Image on a Mac, then save the
file to the same "format" (ie, no format). The ability to
read/write standard graphics files is nice, but not of great
importance as I can already do that. Something like PC
Paintbrush that will allow me to change individual pixel values
in the original and then save the edited image is what I need.

Thanks for any further enlightenment you can offer. OOPS...
I forgot the very important criterion: it must run on PC DOS!
If I've missed one of the programs mentioned in the FAQ file
that will do this, gently flame me... but tell me specifically
which one and where to get it via ftp if it isn't mentioned
in the FAQ file. Again, thanks... I'm not really a graphics
type (whatever that is) but I'm heading there of necessity.
