[comp.graphics] References about Pixar requested.

stephens@latcs1.oz.au (Philip J Stephens) (03/08/91)

Greetings!

I am an honours student embarking on a thesis in three-dimensional
computer animation. Just recently I had the chance to see "The second
Animation Celebration" movie, which featured two amazing shorts by a
company calling themselves Pixar entitled "Knick Knack" and "Tin Toy".

What I am after are articles in major computer graphics journals
that may have being published by the creators of Pixar. Unfortunately
I do not know where to start, so I thought maybe some kind soul might
point me in the right direction.

  Thanks in advance.

...check back issues of "Computer Graphics", published by the SIGGRAPH
(Special-Interest-Group-on-computer-GRAPHics) division of the ACM
(Association of Computing Machinery). The wonderful folks at PIXAR
have probably written quite a few articles there in the past. You
should be able to find back issues at your nearest school of
engineering library.

(SIGGRAPH ain't a bad thing to be a member of either; you get the
magazine and other benefits, and it's cheap if you're a student =).

Also look for references (books & articles) on "Renderman", which is
the PIXAR-developed computer-rendering environment now being made
available to the rest of us. They used it (or were at least
developing it) to make "Tin Toy" and the snowman one. Amazing stuff!
