[comp.graphics] Graphics Tablet & 1024x768 256-color paint program

rnollman@maxzilla.encore.com (Richard Nollman) (03/20/91)

I am interested in any information on graphics tablets that will work with
my Amiga 3000 and a 286 clone. Prices would be appreciated. Has anyone had
any experience with the graphics tablet from Dakota?

Also, I recently installed a 1024 x 768 256-color Tseng4000 graphics card
in my 286. I am looking for a paint program that will display 256 colors
at the 1024 x 768 resolution shareware, freeware, or commercial.

I tried the Dakota tablet at the AmiExpo show and liked it. The stylus wasn't
as sensitive as on the AProdraw/Summasketch tablet but it still had a good
feel. The Dakota tablet can transmit through about 1/2" of material (for
tracing magazines or books) while the Summa is limited to about 1/4".
The Dakota is also around $100 cheaper and comes with a stylus AND puck.
I still think I like the feel of the Summasketch better however. I called
Dakota to find out if there is any way to adjust the stylus sensitivity in the
driver or if it is simply a switch closure. I am still waiting on a reply.

Windows 3.0's Paint program will work at that resolution provided you have
enough memory and a lotta patience on a 286 :)

I have a version of the TSENG3000 driver for ZSoft's PC Paintbrush IV
that I changed to work for the TSENG4000. Since it's useless without
PC Paintbrush, mail me if you want a copy and I'll send it. If you're
adventurous, you can figure it out with DEBUG - it's just a few tweaks
here and there.
