Hello, it's a very nice little package, costs about $295.00. I think
there is an upgrade coming out soon. The package only deals with GIF
files, or .FLI format animation files. You can do alot with the pgm.
but its main fault is that it only handles 320x240 images at 256
colors. They may be improving that with there upgrade. AutoDesk is
a pretty reasonable co. There other products are pricey (AutoCad,
3D studio) but this is a reasonable entry level animation pgm.
I just bought 3DS and am amazed at what it can do, although for the
$3000 it should wash my car...

I use Autodesk Animator for sales demos and for personal fun! It is probably
the best VGA paint program around but only runs in 320x200x256 color
mode (13h). You can do cel type animation or polyline type animation
with automatic tweening of polylines.

You can cut out cels and rotate/spin them in 3d to create nifty effects.
The program also includes title generation for nice scrolling titles
or spinning titles or whatever. The program works across many frames so
that you can simple move a cel and the program will smoothly generate
all the cels for the move.

The pallete can also be animated but most VGAs will "snow" when you change
more than 64? colors at once in the pallete. Animators' pallete manipulation
is also excellent and allows for total manipulation of the pallete.

The paint portion of the program is great as you can take a brush type
(spray) and combine it with an ink type (opaque, smooth) to get many
artistic effects.

Animator can also bring in multiple GIF files and can convert larger GIFS
as well as some other formats (Atari,Some Amiga, targa).

I heard the price of the program has been raised from $300 to $500 but
it is definitely worth it since all you need is a VGA with NTSC out to
record your animations to video.

And... If you thought Animator is neat, Autodesk 3D Studio adds the dimension
of a 3D modeler with full object/constraint based 3d animation. It can also
generate full color 24/32 bit files or ANY resolution GIF files.

Keep you eye on alt.binaries.multimedia for 3d Studio animations that I will
be posting. I am trying to get my damn human to walk, but 3d animation
is a lot different that 2D.

(Note: 3D Studio sells for about $3000, Hmmm maybe $500 is not so bad!)
