[net.cooks] Vinegar Pie

Help! Vinegar pie has a consistency something like lemon meringue pie
without the meringue, and it's flavored with apple cider vinegar. It's
not the same thing as chess pie, but I'm sure net folk wouldn't mind
a chess pie recipe or two either.

To the best of my knowledge, vinegar pie is a regional specialty of
southern Appalachia. A former SO of mine from southwestern Virginia
thought that it was restricted primarily to southwestern Virginia and
northeastern Tennessee. Her momma made the sweetest vinegar pie you
ever sank your teeth into. Unfortunately, her recipe was of the "take
a handful of this" variety, and it never quite tasted the same (maybe
it was the mountain air ...). I've since lost the recipe.

If anyone out there can shed any light on the topic of vinegar pie's
origins, has any vinegar pie tales to tell, or (best of all!) has a
sure-fire recipe for vinegar pie, I'd be eternally grateful.
