blau@osceola.cs.ucf.edu (Brian Blau) (04/25/91)

I am looking for information on PHIGS and PHIGS+. A few references or a
short description of these two graphics standards would be helpful.

PHIGS-PLUS (nee' PHIGS+) is an addendum to PHIGS. The original ANSI
standard X3144-1988 (PHIGS88) is being "obsoleted" in favor of the
IDENTICAL ISO9592 (PHIGS89).

So, PHIGS refers to both.

The PHIGS88 spec... They can sell you ISO9592, too.

And PHIGS88: Computer Graphics-Programmer's Hierarchical Interactive
Graphics System (PHIGS) Functional Description... ANSI Standard
X3.144-1988. (Language bindings are X3.144.x, where x=1 (FORTRAN), 2
(PASCAL), 3 (ADA), 4 (C).)

Call ANSI in New York for ordering (212)354-3300

And PHIGS-PLUS since it is not a standard you can get the latest
public review copy from Global Engineering (800)854-7179

Or, you can get the great new book :-)

A Practical Introduction to PHIGS and PHIGS PLUS
TLJ Howard, WT Hewitt, RJ Hubbold, KM Wyrwas
Addison-Wesley 1991
ISBN 0-201-41641-7
Price 24 Pounds (that's all I got :-)

PHIGS PLUS is a new Part 4 to PHIGS and addenda to Parts 1-3. This means that an
implementation can be parts 1-3 compliant and not Part 4. Addendum requires
compliance for all implementations. PHIGS PLUS need not be supported to be
PHIGS Parts 1-3 compliant.

PASCAL was dropped but the numbers you give are still correct.
