[comp.graphics] 3-D illustrations for research papers?

jorice@maths.tcd.ie (Jonathan Rice) (05/22/91)

At the moment I'm writing a technical paper about a graphics algorithm which
involves lots of hairy 3-D projections and intersections of polyhedra. I'll
need to do some pretty complex illustrations for this if anyone is going to
have any idea what I'm talking about. Obviously, I need some support in drawing
these things, either with some CAD or modelling/rendering program. Facilities
particularly looked for would be isolation of intersection faces between
polyhedra, surface transparency and PostScript output. Possible candidates
I've thought about are Mathematica and AutoCad. Are there any PD CAD packages
for Macs or Suns that might fit the bill (I don't know AutoCad or PCs and
would rather not get into all that right now)? Are there any tools
specifically designed for doing 3-D illustrations?
