[comp.graphics] Scene Description Languages.

I have been following this group for the last couple
of weeks and have been listening closely to the talk of
Pixar's RenderMan. The whole subject is very intersting and
it seems as if this is the right place for my queries.

My 3rd year project is to write an animation front end for the PD 
ray tracer, DKBTrace, and I was wondering if anyone had any information
on this topic. What are the main functions of an Animation description
Language?  What should thet include? What is the standard?

If anyone has any examples, papers, references or just knows it all, it
would all be of great help.

summarize and pass it on.
