[comp.graphics] NIH Image

annala@neuro.usc.edu (A J Annala) (08/29/89)

I would like to know where I could obtain a copy of NIH Image preferably
by anonymous ftp. I gather the original package was written in pascal
for Mac-II's. Has anyone patched the code to work with Sun-III's under
SunWindows and/or X11R3?

Thanks, AJ

Does anyone have NIH Image available by anonymous ftp?

Thanks, AJ

The current version of NIH Image(v1.19), along with source code and
example images, is now available via ftp from NIH's new ftp site at
alw.nih.gov [128.231.128.251].

Here is a list of the files available as of 3 Oct 89.

ct_scan.sit.hqx 60358 CT scan in PICT format
image113stack.sit.hqx 237314 HyperCard help stack
image_1.19.sit.hqx 167865 Application
image_1.19_manual.sit.hqx 180151 Manual in MacWrite format
image_1.19_source.sit.hqx 273850 Lightspeed Pascal source
mri_scan.sit.hqx 61623 MRI scan in TIFF format

These are BinHexed files that must be decoded and unpacked using
Stuffit 1.1.1, or later.

Could someone drop me a brief note about the capabilities of NIH Image?
I need a quick description of capabilities and information on how to get
a copy for a review of public domain (or free) image processing systems
available to the neuroscience community.

Thanks, AJ

I have heard quite a bit about NIH Image for the Machintosh computers
written at the National Institute of Health. This is an image-
processing system for working on greyscale and colour images. Does
anyone know if something like this exists for MS-DOS machines. I am
looking for a rather complete image-processing package that deals
with image-segmentation, enhancement, transforms, and restoration.
I have a 386SX with 4M RAM, 65M HD space, and an ATI SVGA card. I
have the hardware, but not the software! Any information or leads
would be much appreciated... Thanks.
