[comp.graphics] 3D primitives: strips, spokes, meshes...

hoffmann@opal.cs.tu-berlin.de (Stefan Hoffmann) (06/10/91)

Dear comp.graphics readers!

I'm looking for books, articles, papers ... about quadrilateral meshes, triangle
strips, spokes, triangle lists, quadrilateral lists.
I have the manuals of SunPHIGS 1.3, Silicon Graphics GL(Graphics Library) and
the Graphics Programmers manual for Tektronix Workstations.
These 3D output primitives are described there, but I cannot find anything else
about this topic.
We have our own data format and graphics package for our Tektronix terminals and
workstation:
a list of vertices with their coordinates (and add. informations) and a list of facets with pointers to 3 or 4 vertices.
We want to use more advanced 3D graphics packages like PEX, SunPHIGS, ...
in our environment, so we have to convert our surface data to the named formats
above to use the new 3D output primitives.

I'm interesting in your experiences in using the primitives, in converting
between different data formats, in space and performance aspects.

Thanks,
