We have a Microtek MSF-300A scanner which displays some weird behaviour. Whenever we try to scan anything wider than approx. 1000 dots (3 inches at 300 dpi, 4 inches at 255 dpi, 8 inches at 120 dpi), the scan crashes and hangs. Extensive debugging shows that the communication between the computer (Sun SparcStation running ScanTool) and the scanner hangs. It seems that somewhere (at 1024 bytes?) the packages get too big and the scanner tries to split them whereupon the comm protocol fails to ask for the next part. Or possibly the computer's flow control stops the scanner and then fails to re-start it. Has anybody encountered this and found a solution? Mail me and I'll summarize. I should add that the scanner crashes when connected to a PC too, but we haven't been able to get as much diagnostics there.
