[comp.unix.questions] UNIX system survey

jdl@zeke.UUCP (Joe Linoff) (12/16/86)

Help! I am trying to put together a UNIX system for a small software
development group. Can anyone out there give me some suggestions? Listed
below are the base requirements.

	1. ethernet interface
	2. minimum 2 Mb of no wait state memory (s/b expandable beyond 16 Mb)
	3. minimum of 150 Mb hard disk storage
	4. floppy disk (1 Mb)
	5. UNIX (System V.3 or BSD 4.2)
	6. CPU (>12 Mhz) with MMU, FPU, 2 or more RS-232 ports
	   (68020,WE32100,???)
	7. 1-4 users per node
	8. relatively inexpensive (<$15,000)

Thank you.

There was a new machine introduced at Comdex by LF Technologies that you
may be interested in looking at. I have not used this machines, but it
lookes like it might be a good machine to consider. After our luck with
some other small (an inexpensive) UNIX machines, this one is probably worth
looking at. After all, it can't be a whole lot worse.

The machine runs either SVR2 or SVR3 (I don't have the sales stuff here).
It is supposed to be a real UNIX (no XENIX or other immitations). They
will support ethernet, although we have not heard back from them which
protocols they support. The memory and disk storage requirements should
be easy to meet. In addition, I believe that they are working on some
386 based machines that should be introduced soon (if not already). Another
possible plus for the machine is that it is very small (11 inch cube I
believe). Should be easy to move around.

The company is located somewhere in Nevada, however we have a local sales
office. I have the following info:

		LF Technologies
		Regional Sales Office
		2140 Peralta, Suite 204
		Fremont, California 94536
		(415) 791-0291

Hope this is of some help.
