Nowhere on the man page does it explain which date and time are printed. By experiment, I found that they are the date and time of last modification. The more casual user may be unaware of this and may expect that the date and time were those of the printing. It's a simple matter to include this information in the man page. The aforementioned quote could read: "...the listing is separated into pages, each headed by the page number, the DATE AND TIME THAT THE FILE WAS LAST MODIFIED, and the name of the file."
