I've heard of the "live monkey's brains" and the "deep fried live fish' (though, I didn't know the latter was cooked). One additional dubious delight I haven't seen mentioned here is based around what is usually thought to be a mainstay of vegetarians and Japanese - tofu. On the last page of "The Book of Tofu", the author describes a barbaric Japanese delicacy. A block of tofu is placed in a clear glass pot along with several live loaches (small, fresh-water eels). At the table, the pot is slowly brought to a boil. Trying to escape the heat, the loaches burrow into the cool tofu, where they are cooked. The block is then lifted out of the water and **sliced**. Being a vegetarian and a (albeit not avid) fan of tofu, I find this Utterly Repulsive, and also a waste of perfectly good tofu. Thought I'd bring it up for the entertainment and edification of those types who enjoy a sick discussion as much as I do. Mark Johnson (...rochester!ritcv!husky!mj)
