[comp.unix.questions] LINK_TIMEOUT environment variable

heiser@ethz.UUCP (02/20/87)

On our VAX/Ultrix systems everybody seems to have a line
setenv LINK_TIMEOUT 3
in their .login files, however nobody seems to know what it does.
A "grep LINK_TIMEOUT *" in the manuals did't help either. Does anybody know what this
environment variable is good for?

Please respond by mail

I would also appreciate any information on this mailed to me.

I called DEC tech support about this many months ago. They said
LINK_TIMEOUT is no longer used for anything (but didn't explain
why it's still in the skeleton .login shipped with Ultrix)
