In September 1986 I posted a query concerning performing "automatic unattended dumps". I finally took the time to compile the responses and ended up with a 30K file! It makes for interesting reading though. It includes pointers, possibilites, suggestions, problems, and a few scripts. (Thanks to all those who responed.) Anyone interested? If there is enough interest I'll post, but I'm reluctant to do so now because of the size of the file. For those who want a quick synopsis: There are ways of doing it but not under Ultrix. Ultrix prevents one from performing many of the suggestions I received, namely having shutdown run from the crontab. Those interested may want to consult the recent discussion on the net concerning the merits of dumping active file systems. (Sorry, I didn't compile those.) LIVE: Ken A.
