[comp.unix.questions] Dialin Protection Software for 4.[23]bsd

salzman@rdlvax.UUCP (Gumby) (05/04/87)

I have had several requests for my dialin security software
therefore I will be posting it to comp.sources.unix as soon
as I get a chance to clean it up and write some man pages
for it. I've been extremely busy as of late so it may be
a month or 2 until I can get to posting, no longer than
late June I suspect.

For those that don't remember my posting in answer to peoples
modem hangup problems, I have written a dialin security program
that provides additional password protection on dialin lines,
maintains extensive logs of all login attempts, and makes sure
the line is hung up when the person logs out. It works by
putting '/etc/dialin' in the 'lo' field of /etc/gettytab. This
gets exec'd instead of /bin/login. When dialin is done doing
its thing (asking for a password and verifying dialin access
for that user), it exec's /bin/login (actually, it forks and execs),
or hangs up on the person.

As of now it's somewhat of a hack, but close to being a completed,
but lacks any sort of documentation. I need to provide at
least 2 man pages and a general document on how to set it up, etc.
So, for those who have been waiting for a response from me, hang
in there. I appreciate the interest in the program. It's good
to know that someone finds something you do useful (other than
your boss :-).
