[net.music] Duran Duran: RIO review

will (03/27/83)

Personal review: **** out of *****
	(i.e., I like it a helluva lot)
overall review (a critic's appraisal): *** out of *****

'Hungry like the Wolf' is the best cut, but just about every tune on this
album is very close behind. Most songs have a hummable tune and a catchy
beat. The second side is a little mellower than the first (which contains
'Hungry like the Wolf'). All instruments (2 guitars, synthesizers/organs,
and drums) are used very well and distributed evenly. There is no wild-
eyed, long-haired hippie leaping out at you with some caucophonous frenzy
on his guitar, and the singing (if you haven't heard it) is decent and in
tune.
What it all comes down to is this: If you like 'Hungry like the Wolf,'
the chances are you will like or even love this album. If you don't
particularly like 'Hungry...' but think it could be given a chance, you
should give this album a listen in a store if possible. If you don't
like 'Hungry...' at all, forget it.

If this is their first album, they did a really good job.
