The Emory U. Computing Center is intereseted in Amdahls' UTS version of Unix. Although we've contacted our local saleman, I suspect that for certain questions, I may get a faster answer by going to the net. I would appreciate answers to any of the following questions by mail, and will summarize if there is interest. Thanks. 1) According to the brochure, UTS's next release will comply with the SVID for 3.1. What is the target date for this release? 2) Number (1) above implies that UTS will support STREAMS and RFS. The next question is, what media (ethernet, starlan) will be supported, and what protocols (TCP/IP, NPACK)? We are particularly interested in support for ethernet and TCP/IP. Those are the two major questions. Some others: 3) Amdahl's current ethernet support uses software from TWG and a Spartacus box. a) Does this software make an rlogin look like an ascii terminal, or like a 3270? b) Can that software use an IBM DACU instead? 4) Is there software that is equivalent to the UTS/F front end software that will run in an IBM Series 1 instead of the Amdahl 4705 processor? (We want to be able to use ascii terminals and do cbreak style work, but can't afford to buy another box just for it. We already have a Series 1.) 5) What is the cost of a UTS source license if one already has the approriate AT&T license? 6) Are there educational discounts? If so, how much?
