A treat on PBS this week for people who like the music of David Byrne (Talking Heads): Twyla Tharp's modern dance, "The Catherine Wheel", was presented as part of the Great Performances series this evening and will undoubtedly be repeated later in the week, with music composed, performed, and produced by David Byrne. The entire score is presented, thus one hears music not on the LP of the music (though present on the cassette version). Review of the television version of the production: I have not seen the dance live, but my impression was that much is lost in putting it onto the small screen. Still, the music is enjoyable and one gets a sense of the choreography involved, along with a fascinating interview with Twyla Tharp, who reveals the intent of the piece (which I won't give away). I couldn't devote my full attention to the presentation, as I was working at the same time, but I certainly enjoyed the music.
