After heraring all this talk on the net about make, NFS and different binaries. I had an idea. On our Pyramid there is a field in the magic number that identifies the machine type (the file(1) command will tell you it's a 90x type file or alien). So why don't you just teach make about it and when it checks dates just have see if the .o file is the right kind. So all one would have to to say is 'rsh pyramid make' and end up with a pyramid a.out or 'rsh sun make' and end up with an sun a.out. This is probably really idealistic, but seemed like a good idea at 10pm last night. I don't think this be done by just writing your own .c.o rules. But would entail some modification to make(1) or maybe ld(1). So what do you net.readers think? /cal -- Cal J.
