Does anyone know if the software exists to send TCP/IP over a serial link as opposed to an ethernet connection? I know performance will be awful, but I need the capabilities. My dilemma is that I need to connect a 3B15 to an existing ethernet consisting of BSD workstations. Stephen Corbesero

A couple of companies you could try: Unisoft -- (415) 644 1230 Root Computers, the British company that is Unisoft's majority shareholder, certainly sells a product called B-Net which claims to do what you want. Unisoft may, however, only support it on their own ports of UNIX Wollongong Group -- (415) 962 7200 This company has specialised in TCP/IP with everything. Maybe your requirement is one they can fill. Happy hunting! Dominic Dunlop domo@riddle.uucp domo@sphinx.co.uk

Yup, ROOT in London has supplied serial line IP for a number of customers. The serial line IP module basically slots in as a driver within the generic TCP/IP package which we market as B-NET. It would be fair to say that it would be most convenient to supply this communications option as part of the UniPlus+ port which we perform for port customers. However, we are happy to integrate this capability into other kernels - so long as the customer has sufficient source to make this viable. To date, ROOT has supplied this under UniPlus+ V.0 and V.2. We are currently writing STREAMS software to make it available under generic AT&T UN*X V.3 and UniPlus+ V.3. UniSoft has not done any work on this and will probably refer your enquiries to London. You can skip one hop by calling us direct if you wish. nick - Nick Armitage, Root Technical Systems, 3 Hayne Street, London, EC1A 9HH. phone: +44 1 606 7799 fax: +44 1 726 8158 telex: 885995 ROOT G My opinions do not necessarily represent those of any ROOT-Unisoft company.
