I have been watching my systems performance statistics lately while the load on it has increased. I have a VAX 785 w/10 Mb + 4 RA81's. My question is..... is it considered 'normal' for the system (SYS) to consume a majority of the CPU usage. In the example, which I consider typical as of late, I see that the USER and NICE usage is far below that of the SYS overhead. 24 users Load 5.98 5.64 4.94 Thu Sep 17 10:50 Mem REAL VIRTUAL PAGING SWAPING Interrupts Tot Text Tot Text Free in out in out 251 total Act 1968 619 2348 653 2550 count 103 clock All 5306 1380 8046 2974 pages 6 cnr cnx Discs ra0 ra1 ra2 ra3 Rec It F/S F/F RFL Fre SFr mba0 seeks 4 uba0 xfers 13 2 2 18 ud0 blks 57 10 1 7 35 zf xf 60 dhr0 msps 47 nzf 9 nxf 4 dhx0 74.47 %zf %xf dm0 Procs r p d s w dhr1 5 1 19 93 Csw 11 dhx1 V-----------------------------------------------| 50 Trp dm1 59.0% Sys 35.8% User 5.2% Nice 0.0% Idle | 634 Sys 37 dhr2 | | | | | | | | | | | | 264 Int 12 dhx2 ==============================>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>--- | Pdm dm2 | 24 Flt 2 dhr3 Namei Sys-cache Proc-cache | Scn 2 dhx3 Calls hits % hits % | Rev dm3 200 167 84 2 1 | 1 dhr4 Showing vmstat, refresh every 5 seconds. | 1 | | **NOTICE** In the past, I have noticed that the SYS has been, what I consider high, at >30%.
